Yes! We also used natural peanut butter with this recipe, and it worked great! You shouldn’t have any issues if youโ€™re using creamy peanut butter.

How do I make these peanut butter Rice Krispie treats?

  1. Line a square baking dish and set aside. Measure out the mini marshmallows, setting one cup of them aside.
  2. Melt butter in a large saucepan. Once melted, add the mini marshmallows (minus that cup) and stir until the marshmallows are beginning to melt.
  3. Stir in the peanut butter until mixed evenly. Remove from heat.
  4. Stir in the cereal and peanut butter chips (if you’re using them).
  5. Press the treats into the prepared pan in an even layer and smooth the top.
  6. Allow your peanut butter Rice Krispie treats to cool, then slice and serve!

This dessert can be stored at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Serve at room temperature whenever youโ€™re ready for another piece!

Protip: Parchment paper!

If you want to preslice the treats, separate them with parchment paper if you stack them up. Otherwise, they will stick together in one giant Rice Krispie treat!

Peanut Butter Rice Krispie Treats are a twist on a classic recipe that your family is sure to love! These are great treats for parties, after-school snacks, and last-minute desserts.

Ingredients

  • 6 tablespoons salted butter
  • 16 ounces mini marshmallows, divided
  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 6 cups Rice Krispie cereal
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter chips, optional (see notes)

Instructions

  1. Line a 9"x9" baking pan with parchment paper and set aside. Measure out 1 cup of mini marshmallows and set aside.
  2. In a large pot, melt butter over low heat. Once melted, add all but the reserved 1 cup of the mini marshmallows and stir until the marshmallows are beginning to melt.
  3. Stir in the peanut butter, mixing continuously until peanut butter is distributed evenly throughout. Remove from heat.
  4. Stir in the Rice Krispie cereal, remaining 1 cup of mini marshmallows, and peanut butter chips (if using) until everything is evenly coated.
  5. Press the mixture into the baking pan gently, smoothing the top. Don’t press too hard, or they will be more difficult to eat.
  6. Allow to cool completely for at least 1 hour, then slice and serve!

Notes

  • Peanut butter chips are optional but definitely recommended. You can also use chocolate chips instead!
  • We recommend creamy peanut butter for this recipe.ย We've used natural and conventional peanut butter, and both worked well!
  • These keep well at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 3 days. To avoid them sticking together, slice them, then stack them with parchment paper in between.
