This apple spinach smoothie is one of my fave Fall breakfasts (tied with pumpkin spice overnight oats). It's got the flavor of apple pie while giving you tons of protein and fiber to fuel your day!

🔁 Variations & Substitutions

  • Skip the banana: Leave out the banana and add in canned pears, more applesauce, or an avocado half. I have a whole bunch of smoothies without banana that you can checkout for more tips on how to de-banana any smoothie recipe.
  • Make it vegan/dairy-free: Sub in dairy-free yogurt. Try my coconut milk yogurt recipe.
  • Boost the nutrition: Add in protein powder, more spinach, collagen, chia seeds, flax meal-go wild!
  • Add in whole apples: My recipe leaves out whole apples just because they can be rough on some blenders, but if you have a powerful blender, feel free to toss in some sliced apples (keep on the peels for added fiber).

Spinach and apple are packed with fiber, protein, and tons of vitamins and minerals to fuel your day. Spinach has tons of vitamin K, vitamin A, iron, and Vitamin C.

Is it okay to put raw spinach in a smoothie?

Absolutely! Raw spinach blends almost seamlessly into smoothies and has a mild enough flavor to be covered up in most fruit smoothies. Stick with baby spinach for the best blending.

Apple Spinach Smoothie

This apple spinach smoothie tastes like apple pie in a glass! It's packed with tons of added nutrition thanks to spinach, and I promise you can't taste it.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup 100% apple cider
  • ½ cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 cup lightly packed baby spinach
  • ½ cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 medium frozen banana
  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon or to taste
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • A few ice cubes

Instructions

  • Combine all ingredients in the carafe of a blender and blend on high until smooth. Taste and blend in more cinnamon if desired. Pour into a glass and serve immediately.

Notes

  • If you love cinnamon, sprinkle a little more on top of the smoothie to serve.
  • To make this dairy-free, use dairy-free yogurt like my instant pot coconut yogurt.
