Happy June, friends! And happy first official day of the Super Summer challenge. YAY! I am so excited to see so many of you participating, posting on social media and interacting with each other through the peer accountability worksheet. If you haven’t signed up yet (or have no idea what I’m talking about) you can still learn all about the challenge and join in at any time.
We’re kicking things off today, and I hope you all log lots of points to your charts today! I’ll be chiming in about once a week here with my progress, plus, we’ll be chatting all the time about the challenge on Twitter and Instagram (with the hashtag #SuperSummer). I hope everyone starts off today with a bang! And to get us all really motivated I want to talk a little bit about rewards.
In this challenge, both Coach Krissie and I have encouraged everyone to set two rewards—one at the halfway point (5,000 points) and one at the challenge completion (10,000). Because this is an extended challenge, lasting all summer long, we’ve been encouraging you to think big! Think a little extravagant. Think something you really, really want (but maybe would never buy for yourself). Think of something that will be a big enough carrot to carry you through the entire season.
We’ve been having some talks over on Twitter about what folks have decided on for rewards. Here are some of the great ones I’ve heard so far:
- A new yoga mat
- Tickets to a concert
- Dinner out
- New workout clothes
- A custom-made dress
- A weekend away
- A Fitbit
- A massage
I guess you’re probably wondering what I’m going to do? I am so excited about my two rewards! I absolutely want these two things so badly that I can’t wait to rack up points to win them. First up, for the halfway point, I’m going to reward myself with something I’ve been thinking about for months now—getting my hair done! If you’ve been around for a while (or have taken a peek lately at my headshot in the sidebar) you know that for quite a while, I had brightly-colored streaks in my hair. I loved it!
But when I moved to the middle of nowhere, the upkeep became a little much and I dyed it back to my natural color. Womp. Womp. I thought I’d be fine with it, but I desperately miss my obnoxiously colored hair! It felt like it was part of my identity, and I just don’t feel like myself without red (or pink or purple or blue or teal or whatever I’m feeling at that moment!) hair.
This is an excellent reward for me, because it’s something that I’m really struggling with justifying the cash for, but really, really, really desperately want to do! Plus, getting pampered in the chair for a few hours (with a glossy magazine to read and an iced latte to drink) sounds like a great way to celebrate reaching the halfway point of this summer-long challenge. I’ll just need you guys to help me pick out the color!
For the biggie reward, I want to do some kind of a getaway. For me, this summer is going to be insanely busy, and if I manage to accomplish all that is on my docket plus finish this challenge, I will have definitely earned myself a weekend away. We don’t go away often, and I think the promise of a couple of days away after a chaotic summer is just what I need motivate me throughout the whole challenge.
I haven’t finalized where we are going to go, but I have the whole summer to figure it out. Plus, for now, I’m going to focus on my halfway point goal (my hair! yay!). Baby steps. And our first baby step is hitting that 5,000 point mark.
Enjoy the challenge friends, go earn yourself some points!
