🍠 The Ingredients You Need

Ingredients for a sweet potato smoothie: banana, roasted sweet potato, vanilla, milk, ice, cinnamon
  • Banana: Banana is working overtime, serving to both thicken and sweeten the smoothie.
  • Roasted sweet potato: While raw sweet potatoes are edible, cooking them makes their vitamins and nutrients more bioavailable, meaning your body can absorb and process them more easily.

Make sure to check the recipe card below for the full ingredients list, along with quantities and my expert tips and tricks.

🔁 Variations & Substitutions

  • Keep it raw: If you have a high-powered blender, you might be tempted to throw in a sweet potato raw into your smoothie and go to town. And while raw sweet potatoes are perfectly edible, to get the most nutrition and flavor out of sweet potatoes, they need to be cooked.
  • Go vegan: Use plant-based milk to keep this smoothie vegan.
  • No ice: Use frozen bananas, and you can skip the ice! You'll get a stronger flavor to the smoothie
  • Skip the banana: Leave out the banana and replace it with canned pears, homemade yogurt (or this coconut milk yogurt recipe if you're vegan or dairy-free), or an avocado half. Take inspiration from my whole collection of smoothies without banana!
  • Add ginger: Both dried or fresh ginger will give this smoothie a bit of a bite, and brings a bunch of health benefits. Or try any of our other smoothie booster pack addition ideas!

If you haven't tried roasted sweet potato in a smoothie, you are definitely missing out! I like to make this one with pumpkin pie spice for even more pie flavor!

That was really perfect. I just enjoy it.I'v used almond milk in my smoothie and it tastes great. Thanks, Cassie, for putting it together.

  3. Boiled cold sweet potatoes have a lower glycemic index than roasted sweet potatoes and higher amounts of Resistant Starch as well, which helps keep blood sugar levels stable and is a prebiotic. I boil and chill them in the refrigerator before using them.

  4. if you want to be full try sweet potatoes roasted & peeled with coconut oil, butter & sweetener of your choice, then add kale, plain yogort, lemon juice & what ever else you want, you get a meal that will keep you full for hours. I work different hours so I add matcha to. I take it and water or tea and I am good for the day.

There is a down side-- if you have to intake your usual sugary anything, afterwards it will make it taste like just sugar and keep you full

  5. Thank you! Been doing a 30 day challenge and had extra sweet potato. Was awesome. I don't have a big sweet tooth so didn't add the syrup and it was still great.

  7. I like to take the sweet potatoes that I grow, cook them in a crock pot for about 5 hours, peel them, puree them with a little water, and then freeze them in baggies to use in recipes later.

    1. You can eat the sweet potato leaves. They are popular in Asian dishes. I don't know why you couldn't use them as you would use spinach in recipes.

  8. What a great idea....maybe? Sounds interesting. I am in love with sweet potatoes myself lately. I love to bake them and put a little butter and cinnamon on mine. Delicious! And your sweet potatoes look great!
