1. Striiv Pedometer App
I’ve been trying out lots of different pedometer apps for my iPhone (and there are lots) and this one is my favorite so far. It’s free, simple, accurate, and it has little rewards and challenges that make it fun to keep walking. I love getting the little alert everyday that I’ve done enough walking to burn off a cupcake or that I’ve beat my average. My only issue—I keep forgetting to open the app first thing in the morning. And without pinging the app once a day, it doesn’t seem to register my steps as well.
2. Blue Moon Short Straw
I’m more of a craft beer/microbrew drinker, but I couldn’t pass up a massive sampler pack of fun Blue Moon flavors at Costco last week, and this one is one of the best in the bunch. It’s so flavorful, but still nice and drinkable. Great after a long day of working out in the sun!
3. Our Front Porch
Sitting outside on our front porch at the end of a long day of working outside is pretty much my favorite thing on the planet. We sit in our chairs (or sometimes, on the swing) and talk about things we want to do and accomplish and drink gin and tonics and eat tortilla chips and guacamole and listen to bluegrass music on the record player. It’s pretty much amazing.
4. 365 Tonic Water
As mentioned above, we drink a lot of gin and tonics in the summer. If you’ve browsed the store shelves for tonic water lately, you know that pickin’s are pretty slim. You either get the regular kind—which is loaded with high fructose corn syrup—or you can go with the diet version—packed with artificial sweeteners. There are a bunch of higher end options, but they can get pretty pricey if you’re frequent cocktail drinker. Then! I discovered this 365 tonic water at Whole Foods. It’s made we cane sugar. It’s not expensive. And it’s yummy. Yay!
There are two parts of my body that being outside doing so much manual labor has affected negatively—my lips and my hands. As you can see in the photo, the name of my nail color is “Soil” with a nice topcoat of “Compost”. I expected my hands to take a beating, but I never expected my lips to be such a problem! Even when I wear an SPF lip balm, my lips are so chapped and red thanks to house and hours of sun. Carmex is my BFF. It’s the only thing that’s helped my sad lips not be so sad anymore. No progress on making my hands look less like farmer’s hands.
