[box] I thought a nice way to send 2011 packing would be to go in depth and review how I did with each of the 11 goals that I set around this time last year. For the next two weeks or so, you’ll see one of these a day. Some I totally rocked, some, not so much. I’ll end it all by sharing with you my goals for 2012. [/box]
Goal #10: Limit the amount of TV we watch on weeknights.
Did I achieve it?
That picture makes me laugh.
Okay, so this goal was a big fat failure up until just a few months ago. We were both slaves to the ole boob tube. We’d come home from work and watch TV from the second we sat down until the second we got up to go to bed. We recorded anything and everything that sounded remotely interesting to our DVR and would just stare into the bright colors for hours and hours. It was a really terrible habit and both of us found ourselves with neglected to-do lists.
One day, we got fed up with it and just up and cancelled our cable. Then, a few weeks later, we pulled the whole plug and cancelled everything (local channels, DVR, etc.). We made a list of our truly favorite shoes, and we watch those online or through Netflix. We have so much more free time now! Honestly, I do miss live sports—we’ve been listening to a lot of the radio—but that’s a small price to pay for the uptick in our quality of life.
I doubt we’ll always be without cable, but right now, I’m loving it. As far as the goal goes, it was to watch less TV on weeknights and I can safely say we’ve gone from 3-4 hours (!) of TV per night to 0-1 hours per night. And I’m much less stressed out about my to do list, because it’s almost always empty nowadays.
