It is no secret that I love a good video game crosstraining session. I’m sure a lot of athletes look down on those of us that use video gaming consoles for fitness, but trust me, there are some games out there that can work up a serious sweat!
My new favorite was a Valentine’s Day gift from Babyface!
I’d heard great reviews for this game from quite a few friends. They all talked about how much fun it was and how they were soaked after just a small amount of time shaking their groove thing.
I love dancing. I love acting a fool. I love sweating.
To play, all you have to do is strap on the Wii remote, and mirror the moves on the screen. In reality, the sensor only picks up what moves you are completing with your right hand, but the real fun (and calorie burn) comes from getting your whole body into it.
The song list is incredible! If you are a fan of popular music (and some counterculture stuff, too) you’ll find something you like. Also, there are a handful of songs that can be purchased with 300 Wii points, which averages out to around $3.
The first night, Babyface and I put on our dancing shoes (actually, I think we were barefoot) and got to dancing. We quickly worked up a sweat and were breathless after just a few songs.
The real fun happened when I took the game to my sister’s for a weekend. Five of us switched off-and-on dancing for hours! We all got so warm that we had to go stand outside—in February.
There are numerous game modes, but our favorite is the “Just Dance” mode. You can select the songs you’d like to do, but also compete with all other participants to determine a winner.
There is also a tournament mode, which selects songs for you and a calorie burn mode, where you dance to hit a calorie burn goal for the day.
And of course, I wouldn’t write a post on a Wii game without showing you a video of me playing it. This time starring Babyface, too! Unfortunately, YouTube stripped the audio away because of copyright infringement (boo!), but you can still get the idea.
