Hey, look! Today’s Eats moved to Wednesday and got renamed with some awesome alliteration. No real reason other than I saw a lot of other bloggers doing WIAW and I really like the way it rolled off the tongue. I am easily influenced. Plus, there is a fun little button and whole party of WIAWers. Fun!
One fun thing about a sick day falling on WIAW is that you get to see a small glimpse of how I eat when I’m not working. On weekends and days off, I tend to eat a lot less because I kinda just listen to my body and eat whenever I’m hungry. At work, I tend to use my meals and snacks as an indicator of time passing. Which is not how it should be, but it’s a hard habit to overcome.
I finally pulled myself out of bed a little before 9am to a grumbling tummy. I think one of the worst feelings in the world is being hungry, but having an upset stomach to where nothing sounds good. I went through a few different ideas, but finally settled on a cold, creamy, fruit-packed smoothie. Vanilla almond milk, bananas, peaches and strawberries. It settled well and quieted my tummy.
A few hours later, the tummy was rumbling again. I guess this would be considered “lunch” although my day-off food style is much more small/medium-sized snacks throughout the day with a full dinner at night. Soooo, mini lunch? Egg on a wheat bun with bacon, tomato and cheese. This tasted awesome, but as soon as it hit the el tumm-o, I was not feeling it. Too much, too soon.
I took some time and rested in bed, finished a book and then realized I had nothing else to read. The horror! I had some books on hold at the library, so I strapped on my flip-flops and drove downtown to the drive-up library window (in my jammies, no less) to get some new reading material. Ate a granola bar before I left.
Once home, dove into a book (yay for new reads!) until my tummy asked for a little more nutrients. Had the world’s juiciest peach and my favorite yogurt of all time—Chobani 2% pineapple.
And then, it was nap time, my friends. Even though one particular fluffy canine was uninterested in allowing me to sleep, I managed to doze in and out for a few hours and felt about 1000 times better once I finally woke up. Puppyface literally sitting next to my head on my pillow was my final alarm clock (she’s a 60 pound dog!).
Thanks to the nap (and probably the whole day of resting) my head felt better, my tummy felt settled and I finally had energy again. Just in time to whip up gyros and tabbouleh for dinner. The gyros were rockin’ (but not quite blog perfect) and the tabbouleh would have been awesome if the cucumber used in it wasn’t bitter! Bitter cucumbers are the bane of my existence. Jerks.
Dessert was a few handfuls of chocolate chips and few licks of the batter from a batch of (healthy-ish!) brownies I’m making for my office picnic on Friday. I think I just heard the collective groan of my co-workers at the mention of a healthy dessert…
That’s all! My plan is to do some reading and then go to bed very, very soon. I have a lot to catch up on at work tomorrow and I certainly don’t need to be feeling like I did this morning.
What’s the best thing you ate today?
Chobani pineapple. LOVE.
