Hey, remember when I didn’t post dinner last night? It wasn’t an oversight. I’ve been having some really heinous stomach issues for the past few days and I couldn’t bring myself to post last night. But I did take a picture of dinner. And no, my stomach issues have not killed my appetite, thankfully.
Nothing fancy. A nice bowl of pasta. Tomato cream sauce over whole wheat spaghetti and a hunk of focaccia.
Moving onto today.
Who says just because I’m no longer in my “back to school” days that I can’t do a little arts and crafts? Not I.
If you don’t like glitter glue, I’m not sure we can be friends.
Anecdote time: one of the first gifts I received from my in-laws when my husband and I were dating was a package of 20 different color Sharpies for Christmas. I knew I was marrying into the right family.
So what inspired all this bright, sparkly goodness? Well, my sister sent me an e-mail today asking if we’d be interested in running the Drumstick Dash on Thanksgiving. It is a flat 4.5 mile race and I quickly replied back with an emphatic (well, as emphatic as e-mail can be), “Yes!’
Then, while sitting at my desk, trying to keep my mind off my ridiculously painful stomach cramps, my mind wandered to other Fall races we are planning on. There is a 5K two weeks prior to Thanksgiving, here in town, that has a 10K that runs along side it. 10K is only 1.7 miles longer than the 4.5 miler. Why not run the 10K, too? So, that’s where this comes in.
It may seem silly to do a training chart for such a (relatively) short distance, but to me, a 10K seems like a crazy unachievable goal right now.
My schedule is loosely based off of Hal Higdon’s 8-week plan, but instead stretches it out to 10-weeks, rearranges some days, and changes some mileage levels.
I’m excited. And only partially because my chart is so bright and sparkly.
I’m still looking for a fun way to cross off days on my chart. And fun rewards for each week completed might be in my future as well. Training starts the week we are spending on the beach, which was purposeful. Figure a few nice, short runs to start off training on the beach will be good. Plus, it’ll help me stay on track during vacation.
Before the artsy-fartsy part of my day, I brought home our weekly CSA share.
I can safely say, that for the first time this season, I am disappointed with our share. Nothing new. And not a lot of bulk. I’m sure that the recent drought has caused a stall in production, but I just wish it wouldn’t have occurred during the 20/40/60 Challenge. I’m really bummed about the lack of fruit, too. We’ve been spoiled recently with peaches, watermelons and apples. Oh well!
Four heirloom tomatoes, which we desperately needed. We are down to one tomato and our tomato plants have slowed to a crawl on production. I’m not ready to give up summer tomatoes yet!
This guy is definitely my favorite of the bunch.
Chubby GREEN baby legs.
More peppers, plus, we have about 5 or so ready to be picked in our garden. I wish I liked raw green peppers (one of the few veggies I don’t like raw).
Little gold potatoes. These kinda look like tiny fingerlings.
Small summer squash and zucchini, both of which I’m planning to use in tomorrow’s dinner.
And the weekly batch of eggs.
Soap. Yeah, soap is great and all, but I’d really have preferred an edible local product this week. Oh well. They smell good and have a really great ingredient list. I especially love the Mint Patch one. I’m gonna smell like Christmas!
Thank God It’s Pizza Night!
Second half of last week’s crust, tomato sauce, red peppers, onions, fresh basil and oregano.
Cheesed it. Baked it.
No salad tonight out of sheer laziness.
That’s alright, more room for pizza.
