This month was a big, fat reading failure. I read one book. Or more accurately, I read three books that were rolled all into one edition. The Nine Lives of Chloe King by Liz Braswell Something I've learned about myself thanks to this book? I get sick of storylines pretty quickly. While I like series, I do not like reading them back to back to back. I like a little break to reflect and get excited for the next installment. The copy. . . Read more »
It is so crazy how quickly my weekly posts seem to pop up! Let's review how I did with last week's goals: Strength train four times this week. I pumped iron three times this week, which I consider very, very successful. I am back to pretty much doing everything at the gym I could before my ankle injuries except for lunges. My ankles just can't take that kind of motion and weight right now, but everything else is perfecto! Spend. . . Read more »
This was my dinner last night. And I don't regret a single bite. I figure since I ran two miles today and just ate some kale, it is all balanced out right? Right. Life is short. And I firmly believe that everyone should try a deep-fried Milky Way at least once in their life (it was delicious, by the way). Happy fair season, friends! Pick one. Funnel cake or elephant ear?
It occurred to me during this week's Today's Eats post that I talk a lot about banana soft serve, but have never actually demonstrated how to make it. I guess I just assumed that it was common knowledge. It looks like ice. . . Read more »
Yayayaya! We made it! Somehow, simultaneously, this week felt incredibly long and incredibly short. I guess that's what happens when you are swamped. I was so busy that the time flew by, but when I list out everything I accomplished, it feels like a whole lot more than what could fit in seven days. Anyway, it is definitely adult beverage o'clock in the Johnston household right now. Yum! Babyface is on his way home and the pizza dough is already rising, so let's get. . . Read more »
Let me be a bit honest, I'm having a down-in-the-dumps week. Nothing in particular is terrible. Just a lot of little things adding up to make me not the happiest Cass I've ever been. So earlier in the week, I asked on Twitter: I got a TON of great responses, but my favorite (which came in from quite a few folks) was to make a list of the thinks you are thankful for. Such a great way to put things in perspective. So. . . Read more »
Time for a confession. Before I met the Babyface, I had no idea that the vast majority of the thick, sticky brown stuff we American's pour on pancakes isn't actually maple syrup. How was I supposed to know that Aunt Jemima was actually just a crazy blend of different corn syrups that were flavored to sorta taste like maple? You wanna know how to get a quick education on maple syrup? Marry a Canadian. Let me tell you! The first. . . Read more »
