[box] I thought a nice way to send 2011 packing would be to go in depth and review how I did with each of the 11 goals that I set around this time last year. For the next two weeks or so, you’ll see one of these a day. Some I totally rocked, some, not so much. I’ll end it all by sharing with you my goals for 2012. [/box]
Goal #3: Run at least five races.
Did I achieve it?
It’s funny how your goals change, isn’t it? When I made this goal, I was just starting to train for my half marathon and had definitely caught the running bug. Now, I’m really not too upset about missing the mark with this one. I ended up being just one race short of my goal, because in the second half of the year, my desire to run dropped dramatically. I’ve talked ad nauseam about my love/hate relationship with running, so instead of that, let’s talk about the races themselves:
April 2, 2011 : Bloomington, Indiana
Indiana University 5K
I made the decision to run this randomly the evening before and had fun running a very hilly race in my town. It was a fun way to break up the long haul of half marathon training.
May 7, 2011 : Indianapolis, Indiana
OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini Marathon
The big one. I wanted this to go so well, but it didn’t. So many things went wrong and it wasn’t the prideful and exciting day I thought it was going to be. That being said, I finished, and I ran a lot of it. And that, compared to where I came from, is amazing.
June 19, 2011 : Channahon, Illinois
Warrior Dash Midwest
Even though I got my ass handed to me and was incredibly bruised and battered for weeks afterward, this race was so much fun! I’d love to do it again someday.
September 24, 2011 : Bloomington, Indiana
Hoosiers Outrun Cancer 5K
Ran this for my friends and family dealing with cancer. The thing that stands out the most for me is that my team raised almost $500 for local cancer research and it was the most out of all of the teams! Very, very cool.
That’s a pretty fun mix of races and experiences and I am very glad I did every single one of them. I’m not crushed about missing this goal. Priorities change. You’ll see this come up again in another goal recap later on.
