- Run (4 miles, 60 minutes, 630 calories)
Labor Day morning was a spectacular 55°, overcast and absolutely perfect for running. Babyface and I headed out to the trail. He did 6 miles and I did 4. Both in our Vibrams. Both focusing on trying to not heel strike. Which was kinda a bad idea because both of our calves were on FIRE for days and days afterward. It wasn’t until yesterday that I felt like I could really walk again without being hindered by soreness. Barefoot running is no joke, kids. Don’t rush it. It is interesting though, now that I’m getting more used to toe-striking/neutral-striking, heel-striking feels SO clunky and ungraceful. I’m not Miss Graceful to begin with, but barefoot running definitely feels more smooth.
Gym (75 minutes, 566 calories)
- 10 minutes walking
- 15 minutes kettlebells
- 35 minutes bike
- 10 minutes planks and push-ups
- 5 minutes stretch
Didn’t even think about activity all week thanks to my sore calves. I suppose I probably could have done something, but I jumped right on that excuse bandwagon and rode it all the way to the weekend. I went to the gym ready to really kick some ass, but I wasn’t really feelin’ the workout pants I wore. They were bunching and slipping and clinging and generally just made me feel less-than-comfortable. Because of that, I didn’t really put my all into it. It’s crazy what a pair of pants can do!

What was your best workout this week?
Despite the calf soreness of doom afterward, my run on Labor Day was spectacular. Cool, breezy and the leaves were starting to tumble down around me. Made me happy!
